This topic is rated (S) for Singles and (M) for Couples in the process of marriage.
One of the worst forms of hypocrisy is the hypocrisy of self-righteousness. If we are wondering why our marriages no longer seem to be progressing, deepening, or succeeding we need to look for the manifestation of self -righteousness. What is Self-Righteousness and why are so many of us guilty of this in all of our relationships? It has been said that Self-righteousness is a form of blindness. It is thought so narrowly focused on itself that it cannot see the good that is all around. It is so self-occupied, so self-involved, that it cages itself into deeper and deeper unhappiness. Self-righteousness loses sight of gratitude, but gratitude is the key to getting out of that self-constructed cage. Have you become a self-righteous wife, husband or court mate because you sin differently than your spouse or future spouse? Are you "keeping score”, and comparing how much you have done to how much your spouse is doing in the marriage? What rotten, hypocritical attitudes are you secretly harboring against your spouse? Are you too Self-Righteous for your marriage, courtship, or even your Nation? Does anyone measure up to your professed high standards? Do you even measure up to your own standards? What is your own self-righteousness really saying about who you really are in 2015? Finally, what has Jesus and our Minister taught us about self-righteous hypocrites?
Self-Righteous attitudes that are harmful to your Marriage:
1. I am MUCH closer to God than my husband is because they don’t pray as much as I do.
2. I am the spiritually mature one in my marriage.
3. I am “more qualified” to lead spiritually.
4. I am “more qualified” to discern God’s will for our marriage.
I am the one with the deeper “inside track” to God.
5. I am a TEACHER of the Bible and Holy Qur’an in my family. I know much more than my spouse does about God’s Word and I need to be sure they don’t “mess things up.”
6. My spouse can’t possibly hear God’s voice as well as I can. Look at the way they sin. I don’t do THAT. I am much more righteous than my spouse is.
7. What I do for others out here in the world is much more important than spending time with my spouse.
8. Other people need me more than my spouse does.
Self-Righteous attitudes that are harmful to the Parenting process:
1. I know what our children need more than my spouse does. 2. My spouse is not around them all the time like I am.
3. I know what I should be teaching the children better than my spouse does.
4. I am going to teach the Bible and Holy Qur’an to my children and NOTHING is going to get in my way. I’m going to do it MY way. I’m RIGHT. My spouse doesn’t understand how important all of this is to our children’s future.
5. If I am in control – my children will be ok.
6. If I let my spouse have any control – our children will be doomed.
7. My spouse doesn’t understand how important homeschooling is and how stressful it is.
8. My spouse is not a good teacher.
9. My spouse should just follow my lead when it comes to rearing the children properly and all parenting in general.
